Josh Buckley
Filmmaker, Illustrator, animator & (motion) graphic designer.
Hi, Josh here
I’m excited about anything that is visually creative and I’m constantly trying innovative ways of expanding my current knowledge in these field.
My journey began at Arnold school back in Blackpool, a small establishment where I first found my love for all things creative. I spent my evenings sketching, designing graphics and generating concepts for my own projects. It was clear from a young age that my abilities were in visual media! My granddad introduced me to film, being an amateur filmmaker himself, I developed my skills in filmmaking from him and much of my film knowledge and enthusiasm came from watching films with him.
I was fortunate enough to go to the cinema with my Granddad every week when I was growing up and it was from this that I grew an interest in horror films specifically video nasties. I spent many years growing up making homemade trash horror flicks, developing my own innovative special effects and drawing up sketches as a visual aid for production. The skills that I practiced as a kid have helped me to understand professional practice currently.
The next stage in my life was practicing filmmaking at the University of Central Lancashire. It was at university where I got the opportunity to branch out in all areas of film. The course allowed me to explore the different areas of pre-production, production, post- production and distribution of film, I was able to develop my skills with both the practical and theoretical elements of film and television.
During my three years at university I have also had the chance to go out and network with companies and other industry practitioners. In this period I worked for companies such as Studio Canal, Sitcom Soldiers and BBC, I made connections with practitioners including Ben Wheatley and late John Hurt, and produced work for a number of clients. This is just a small selection from an ever growing list, please check out my cv for more details.
Since graduating I have continued working in multiple creative fields to a professional standard as a freelancer, whilst working part time as a manager of a health food store. I’m honestly extremely excited to continue on this fast paced and exhilarating journey and look forward to meeting new and great people along the way!
